In 1982, Kumu Silva was the first person to receive approval from the State of Hawai`i Board of Massage to conduct a training program on the Big Island of Hawai`i.
A former lecturer for Chaminade University, Hawai`i Community College, Kapiolani Community College, and the former College for Continuing Education and Community Services branch of the University of Hawai`i, Kumu Silva has more than 26 years of experience as a professional teacher of the health sciences. He continues to offer courses at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo. He is an approved provider of medical continuing education.
As the former head of the Anatomy Department of the McKinnon Institute in Piedmont, California, Kumu Silva created a successful curriculum for training beginning massage students in the fundamental knowledge of the human body.
As guest lecturer at Life Chiropractic College-West in California, Kumu Silva has offered massage training for chiropractic students.

Dane Kaohelani Silva, an experienced teacher, healer and author graduated from the University of Hawai`i with a degree in Biology and Liberal Studies (Biomedical Science). He received his doctorate in chiropractic with honors from Life Chiropractic College West.
He is a former lecturer at the University of Hawai`i, Chaminade University, and Life Chiropractic College-West, co-founder of the East-West School of Massage, and former chief instructor of anatomy at McKinnon Institute. He is a fellow of the Acupuncture Society of America.
Dane Silva was born in Hilo and grew up in Keaukaha, on the big island of Hawai`i. A licensed massage therapist, he learned the arts of lomilomi and healing from his father and grandmother, the kupuna (elders) of his family and the islands, with master healers from Asia and North America, and from decades of study and work within the biomedical, massage, acupuncture and chiropractic communities. A specialist in the integration of Hawaiian Lomilomi, Huna, StressPoint Therapy, herbal healing and chi gong, he has taught courses for 26 years in the healing arts at the college level, in private institutes and at local workshops. He enjoys surfing, canoe paddling and sailing, and swimming with dolphins and turtles.
